Suji-iri Benkei /
Three colors, two types of navy blue thread and white thread with different shades, are arranged vertically and horizontally, and the stripes are overlapped to create a lattice.
Since the Edo period, “Benkei lattice” has been made by weaving two types of colored threads into a rectangular shape at equal intervals vertically and horizontally. The name is said to come from the costume worn by Benkei in Kabuki, and there are many other patterns named after the hobbies and stage costumes of popular actors. This pattern is called “Sujiiri Benkei” because there are stripes (white thread stripes) inside the Benkei lattice.
