猩々緋色は、緋の中でも特に強い黄みがかった朱色のことです。
猩々とは、龍や麒麟などと同じく中国の伝説上の生き物で、人に似た顔、子供のような声、鮮やかな赤い体毛を持ち、体つきは犬や猿に似ているとされます。
猩々緋という色名は、この生き物の血や頭の毛の色が赤いとされていることから誕生したといわれています。
