Tozan-jima / 唐桟縞 – 久留米絣 / ファーマーズ
元来はインドから渡来したもので、日本で桟留縞が織られるようになってから、渡来品のことを唐桟縞とわけてよぶようになりました。
唐桟縞は、極細い綿糸で織られ、紺地に蘇芳（すおう）染めの赤糸か、浅黄（あさぎ）糸の入った縦縞でした。江戸期には各地で唐桟縞を模した織物が織られ、江戸時代に綿縞が流行したことについて唐桟縞の果たした役割は大きかったといわれています。
It was originally imported from India, and after Sando-jima began to be woven in Japan, the imported item came to be called Tozan-jima.
Tozan-jima was woven from extremely thin cotton threads, and had vertical stripes on a dark blue background with Suo-dyed red threads or light yellow threads. During the Edo period, textiles imitating Tozanjima were woven in various places, and it is said that Tozanjima played a major role in the popularity of cotton stripes during the Edo period.
